Emerging cities, according to The World Economic Forum, have the potential for a sustainable future – if they can intelligently harness the rapid and disruptive technological changes of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

This conference aims to help all stakeholders involved in the technological transformation process find better solutions to grow business & society in emerging cities.

Emerging cities are facing challenges connected to demographic and mobility trends which make it easier for people to move elsewhere for higher-paying jobs and better opportunities. On the other hand, quality of life is an increasingly important factor in the decision-making process for talent, so small and medium-sized cities can offer advantages – such as a better human environment.

The question is: How can companies utilise technology to their benefit while continuing to challenge and develop their people and grow their companies?

We will provide bus transport from Poznań, Gdańsk and Warsaw.

Keynote Speech: Navigating the 4th Industrial Revolution
Alec McCullie, Head of IoT & I4.0 at Atos (UK), will cut through the hype around Industry 4.0 and tell us what it means for Polish cities and businesses, now and in the future. What can we learn from the development of 4IR in markets such as UK, USA and Germany? How can it level the playing field and allow SMEs and emerging cities to compete with the big players? The perception of 4IR is that it is a long and expensive process, but is it really the case?

Alec McCullie, Head of IoT & Industry 4.0, Atos (UK)

Panel Discussion: Growing businesses in emerging cities
According to the Smart Industry Poland 2019 report published by Siemens, 95% of respondents expect changes thanks to opportunities offered by digital technologies. At present only 4% of Polish firms sell products and services online to other countries. The value of e-exports from Poland could rise from the current c. PLN 27 billion to PLN 110 billion in the future, according to a report by PwC for the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology. Now Poland has become one investment zone, companies do not have to move and invest far from their current area of operations to secure incentives. The transformation of companies driven by the 4th industrial revolution, the global expansion of local companies - including e-exports - and new investment incentives: how can these opportunities be harnessed to grow local businesses and expand them globally?

Presentation: The Wellbeing 4.0 model - how to shape the work environment to build a competitive advantage
The fast VUCA world impacts how we live, work and lead. The world of work is changing, so is leadership. Business agility is at first mind agility defined as the capacity to let go of the old while creating new mental habits which are more efficient for facing the challenges of the 4.0 world. During the presentation participants will gain awareness of contemporary megatrends and how they impact wellbeing needs of people in organizations. They will also learn six key ways to build a competitive advantage by creating a work environment which inspires people to fully engage their talent in advancing organizational goals.

Breakout Session
TOPICS
  • 1. Connectivity (logistics, supply chain, 5G)

The term Internet of Things (IoT) has been bandied around for over a decade but it has never been more relevant, and with the pending implementation of 5G networks the possibility for real time connections and high speed secure transfer of large amounts of data presents opportunities for business.

According to a Report by McKinsey, the number of businesses that use IoT technologies has increased from 13% in 2014 to about 25% today. The worldwide number of IoT-connected devices is projected to increase to 43 billion by 2023, an almost threefold increase from 2018.

The advantages offered by increased connectivity between B2B companies, and for internally tracking the progress of workflow, makes it an important frontier that companies should be looking to embrace.

How can companies best adopt the technology into their existing infrastructure and what benefits can they gain?

Alec McCullie, Head of IoT & Industry 4.0, Atos (UK)

  • 2. Future of the workforce in emerging cities

Competition for talent is accelerating – and this refers not only to newcomers but also to citizens who already contribute to the local economy.

With a low unemployment rate, Bydgoszcz – like many other Polish cities – has to protect its human resources, as well as find a way to attract new employees to the city.

How can technological advances help create a balanced work-life environment? Is such a balance key to success in creating good business offers for local companies and new investors? How can immigrants reshape the labour market? With nearly 35,00 foreigners working in Polish business service centres, representing – according to ABSL estimates – 14% of employees in the sector, the international element is increasingly important. What can cities do to step up efforts to attract foreign talent?
